Kate Langbroek offers an emotional update on her son’s cancer journey

Kate Langbroek took to the air in person yesterday as she shared a touching update from a battle her family has kept private for years.

Kate Langbroek has given listeners a new emotional update on her eldest son Lewis ’cancer journey.

Langbroek, a mother of four, spoke in yesterday’s episode of the KIIS network 15h Collection, giving fans an update on Lewis, who was diagnosed with leukemia when he was six and endured four years of “terrible” treatment for the disease. But she was full of praise for the medical care she received while she was ill.

“We went through all this treatment and rarely paid anything, this is the magnificence of the country where we live and the magnificence of the taxpayers,” he said.

Now 18, for the past eight years, Lewis has returned with his mother to Melbourne’s “amazing” Royal Children’s Hospital for periodic check-ups to monitor his health.

Her most recent annual checkup was Monday: a series of medical appointments at the hospital to monitor her health. Langbroek said she was first sent out of the room at various times to give her some privacy while undressing.

“It was so weird! But it’s great because it means he’s a big one,” he told co-host Monty Dimond.

“Anyway, then they told us,‘ This is the last time we’ll see you in this hospital, because Lewis is going to an adult hospital. ’I thought,‘ Oh my God, there were so many times in which we thought that day might not come. ‘You are faced with how the course of his illness was, and there were times when we thought,’ I don’t see how we can overcome this. ‘

“And here we were, being fired,” he said with a laugh, “the beautiful doctors and they were sending us our way.”

Langbroek said the annual checkups had often been surprisingly emotional, as they ran into hospital workers who had cared for Lewis when he was very ill.

He revealed that at last year’s check-up, a nurse approached them in the cafeteria and told them she had recognized him since his initial hospital stay.

“She said,‘ I took care of you when you were little and you were very sick. We never wanted to tell you at the time, but we were very worried about you. We were worried you wouldn’t get it. She had tears in her eyes, I had tears in her eyes, and Lewis is standing there like a big doofus, ”she said.

Langbroek said it made him realize the importance of bringing this “good news” to the hospital so that patients and nurses can see the success of Lewis ’treatment.

“I just love him, I love him,” he said.

Langbroek had previously spoken out about Lewis ’battle against cancer in 2020, revealing that he was“ almost dead ”.

“Today is an important day. It’s my eldest son’s birthday; 17, which seems like a miracle because in 2009, when he was six, Lewis almost died, ”he wrote on Instagram.

“He had leukemia and it was three and a half exhausting, terrible, terrifying and painful years before he returned to health. Today he is tall and strong and healthy and ALIVE and we thank the doctors, nurses and friends, and those who went come before us “.
