G7 foreign ministers have said they will pursue new sanctions against Russia, following President Vladimir Putin’s decision to mobilize reservists for the war in Ukraine.
The ministers “deplored Russia’s deliberate escalating steps, including the partial mobilization of reservists and irresponsible nuclear rhetoric,” they said in a statement.
The G7 “will pursue further targeted sanctions and is committed to sustained economic and political pressure on Russia,” they said after a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
“We will study, we will adopt new restrictive measures, both personal and sectoral,” EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who attended the meeting, told the press on Wednesday after a meeting with his colleagues Europeans
Ministers also repeated a pledge made earlier in September to “finalize preparations” for the implementation of a price cap on Russian oil.
