Lloyd describes Geelong’s trade offer for young Magpie as ‘insulting’

Matthew Lloyd has described Geelong’s trade offer for Collingwood’s Ollie Henry as “insulting”.

Former Magpies recruiter Matt Rendell revealed on AFL Trade Radio on Thursday that the Cats had only offered pick No. 38 for the former first-rounder, with that report described as “on point” by newscaster Sam Edmund on SEN Breakfast.

With Henry’s trade value seen by many as equivalent to a late first-round pick, Lloyd believes Collingwood must rebut the lowball offer and threaten to take Henry in the pre-season draft where he could end up at North Melbourne.

“That’s the right word to describe it, that’s insulting,” Lloyd told AFL Trade Radio.

“I think it’s one where you take him in the preseason draft if he doesn’t want to be there.

“I’m sure I’d rather be in Collingwood than North Melbourne.”

With the possibility of the Cats receiving the No. 7 in the Jack Bowes trade, Lloyd believes they should split this pick into two late first-rounders, which can be sent to Collingwood and GWS for Henry and Bruhn respectively.

“This is a place where Geelong will have to part ways (with earlier picks), and I think the clubs will expect Geelong to have to part ways with pick 7 if they want Tanner Bruhn and Ollie Henry to join their club” , Lloyd said.

“To get a couple more picks, give up pick 7 and get a couple picks in the teens, maybe for that pick 7 to be able to make those deals.”

Both Henry and Bruhn are not contracted to their current clubs with the Giants and Magpies each asking for first-round picks in trades with Geelong.
