More than 3,400 confirmed cases of smallpox and one death were reported to the World Health Organization last Wednesday, most of them in Europe, the agency said in an update Monday.
The WHO said that since June 17, 1,310 new cases have been reported to the agency, and eight new countries have reported cases of monkeypox.
Smallpox from the monkey is not yet a global health emergency, the WHO ruled last week, although WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he was deeply concerned about the outbreak.
