Home appliance chain The Good Guys is yielding to public pressure and suspending the adoption of facial recognition technology in its stores.
The Good Guys had been testing the technology at two Melbourne locations, saying it was to prevent theft and other illegal activities.
However, the strong reaction from customers has led them to abandon the plans.
Other major chains like K-Mart and Bunnings are also moving forward with the controversial new technology, but the Good Guys decision is likely to add to the pressure they face for the decision.
