At 19:18 CDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a strong storm that is possibly producing a tornado. Harmful winds, heavy hail and locally heavy rain are also possible. Dopper radar indicates that a couple of storms northwest of the Swan River, Manitoba, may be producing tornadoes. These storms move from east to southeast toward Swan River and Bowsman.

Tornadoes are dangerous and can create life-threatening situations. If threatening weather approaches, take cover immediately, especially if you hear a roar, see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, or flying debris.

Look for shelter indoors, ideally in a room on the ground floor away from exterior walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, staircase, or closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or independent shelters and move to a strong building if possible. As a last resort, lie down in a low place and protect your head from flying debris.

WEDNESDAY: STRONG STORMS, THREAT OF CONDITIONAL RETURN

The dynamics are favorable for severe storms in southern Saskatchewan, southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. This threat includes Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg.

Stronger storms that form could produce very large hailstones, the size of golf balls or more, along with the risk of strong gusts of wind and heavy rain. Tornadoes are also possible.

Tornado watches have been issued for Kamsack – Canora – Preeceville and Yorkton – Melville – Esterhazy in Saskatchewan.

In Manitoba, tornado clocks have been issued for Dauphin – Russell – Roblin – Winnipegosis and Swan River – Duck Mountain – Porcupine Provincial Forest.

Stay tuned for warnings and severe weather warnings on Wednesday. Strong night storms are especially dangerous.

LONG WEEKEND: GREAT CANADA DAY, THIS WEEKEND

Things seem much calmer as we look towards the long weekend.

The cooler conditions behind this latest storm system will bring sub-season temperatures to the region on Canada Day. People in southern Manitoba will no doubt feel the relative cold, with temperatures hovering around 20 ° C, several degrees below the season, over the weekend.

We will see a warm-up towards the first full week of July. Daytime highs across the region will reach mid and high 20s for much of next week, which is warm but not excessive in any way for this point in the summer.

Scattered showers and storms are possible on the prairies this weekend next week, with the greatest chance of emerging rainfall over Alberta on Sunday and Monday.

Check again for the latest conditions in the prairies.
