Twin brothers identified as armed bank robbers murdered by police in Saanich, BC

RCMP agents in Saanich, BC, have identified 22-year-old twin brothers Matthew and Isaac Auchterlonie as the two armed bank robbers who were killed by police in a shooting on Tuesday.

Six police officers were injured in Tuesday morning’s shooting at the Bank of Montreal in Saanich, south of Vancouver Island.

Police also said they had to throw explosive devices found in a vehicle associated with the suspects on Thursday.

The Auchterlonie brothers, both 22, were from Duncan, about 60 miles northwest of Victoria. According to the RCMP, none of the siblings had a criminal record; before they were not known to the police.

“There are still many questions and research efforts that need to be carried out to fully understand what happened and why,” Cpl said. Alex Bérubé at a press conference on Saturday.

“The motive for the armed robbery and the subsequent exchange of gunfire with the police has not yet been determined.”

The investigation into Tuesday’s shooting is led by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crimes Unit (VIIMCU). At the same time, an investigation has also been opened by the Office of Independent Investigations, the control body that reviews all police actions that result in death or serious damage.
