Kanye West’s former business manager, Thomas St. John, can’t locate the erratic star to serve him with a $4.5 million ($6.7 million) contract lawsuit amid rumors the rapper is “missing,” according to court documents obtained by The US sun.
The 45-year-old music mogul has gone viral after a tweet sent by Daily Loud which read: “Kanye West has been reported missing and untraceable for weeks, according to his former business manager.”
The “former business manager” is believed to be Mr. St. John, given his ongoing lawsuit against Kanye and his Yeezy company.
In a court file dated December 19 obtained exclusively by The US sunMr. St. John is asking for an extension of time to serve Ye and the other defendant, Yeezy LLC, according to court documents.
He and his lawyers are asking to extend the time until the end of March because of multiple failed attempts to contact Ye.
There is currently a case management conference scheduled for April 2023.
Kanye’s former business manager is also having trouble notifying Ye’s lawyers because they believe he doesn’t have a lawyer.
“We were advised of a new law firm for the defendants, but not a specific point of contact,” the court filing stated.
“Subsequently, we learned information in the news that the law firm identified as new counsel was not affiliated with the defendants. Consequently, we have been unable to serve the defendants through their counsel. As a general matter, we have had difficulty in confirm Kanye West’s current best address.”
The filing continued: “For Mr. West, despite our diligent efforts, we were unable to determine his current residential address and therefore have not yet attempted to serve him personally. Instead, we have attempted to serve- by mail to several possible addresses”.
According to the documents, he tried to serve Kanye at “three different addresses” in California: his homes in Hidden Hills, Malibu and Calabasas.
Additionally, the packet was returned to an address.
Mr. St. John and his team added, “We will continue to make diligent and reasonable attempts to serve the defendants,” even going so far as to hire “appropriate agencies” to help them locate him.
The failed service attempts come two months after the complaint was filed in Los Angeles.
Mr. St. John filed the lawsuit because he allegedly wasn’t paid for the guaranteed 18-month period working as Ye’s senior financial advisor and chief financial officer, according to court documents.
He was supposed to be paid $US300,000 ($445,000) a month, but only ended up working three of those months, for which he allegedly went unpaid, according to court documents.
In a January 2022 meeting detailed in the complaint, Mr. St. John mentioned that the praise god The singer allegedly became “heated and aggressive” and “screamed” at her, saying she didn’t want to work with him anymore.
The lawsuit stated, “When confronted with the 18-month commitment that had just been made, Mr. West stated words to the effect of ‘The 18-month term was crazy** and ‘You’re crazy until and all to think he would.” they adhere to it.'”
Thomas sued for $US4.5 million ($6.7 million) in damages, including $900,000 ($1.3 million) allegedly owed to him for his work and the remaining months he was guaranteed according to the contract.
Neither Kanye nor his representative have responded to the lawsuit and The US sunrequest for comment from.
