The free NHL agency opens Wednesday at noon ET, and the list of unrestricted free agents is growing.

A player can become a free agent without restrictions if he is over 27 years old or has played in the league for seven years.

Anyone who does not meet these criteria is considered a pending restricted free agent, where teams have more rights to retain a player if their contract expires. However, if a team does not extend a qualifying offer to their pending FRGs, they will lose bargaining rights and the player will become a UFA.

A qualified offer must be at least:

• 110 percent of the previous season’s player base salary if he earns less than $ 650,000 • 105 percent if the player earns between $ 650,000 and $ 1 million • 100 percent if the player earns more than $ 1 million

On Monday, several players did not receive qualifying offers before the 5 pm ET deadline, including big names like Dylan Strome, Ilya Samsonov and Sonny Milano.
