England overcame and outscored a 21-17 error-prone Australia to win their July 2- series, a second success for Northern Hemisphere rugby after Ireland’s previous win over the All Blacks.

Young pistols Freddie Steward and Marcus Smith scored the tests and the England street group led the breakdown while coach Eddie Jones got a second win in the series over his own country after his sweep by 3-0 in 2016.

Australia scored tries through Tom Wright and Folau Fainga’a in front of an exhausted 43,274 crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground, but the accuracy of the home team left them too often at crucial moments.

Australia won the opening test 30-28 at Perth, but England bounced back with a 25-17 victory at Brisbane to take the series to Saturday’s decisive decision.

England withstood late pressure to seal the series victory over Australia in Sydney

England dug deep to complete a series win over Australia with a 21-17 victory in the third round at the Sydney Cricket Ground which saw senior rookies Freddie Steward and Tommy Freeman play leading roles.

Eddie Jones’s tourists took a 21-10 lead thanks to Steward and Marcus Smith’s attempts and Owen Farrell’s kick, but it started to sink when Folau Fainga’a centered in the 66th minute.

But instead of folding as they did in the first test, this time England showed the decision to keep the Wallabies out despite sustained late pressure, with Luke Cowan-Dickie and Courtney Lawes combining to ensure critical late turnover.

England beat Australia 21-17 in Sydney to win the series 2-1

And his head coach Eddie Jones is next to speak into the Sky Sports microphone.

“The big difference between the first and third test is that we kept fighting, we kept the game. The defense of our finalists was excellent and that gave us the result. We stayed there, it was hard for us. The conditions were not ideal for rugby and we probably didn’t adapt as well as we could. But we kept fighting, great effort from the leaders: Owen Farrell, Courtney Lawes, Ellis Genge and Jack Nowell in particular.

“I think it’s a really positive step. We’ve always felt that the team is going in the right direction, but sometimes the results don’t reflect that. It’s a young and inexperienced team, but living an experience like that is fantastic.

“I think we are in a good position. We need to keep improving little by little. It’s like training a racehorse: we have to be at our best for the World Cup final. “

And a few more thoughts from Courtney Lawes, who enjoyed an exceptional series

“That was tough. I’m worn out, worn out properly, and I think it really showed what it means for us to play with this team. We had a pretty tough start, both in series and this game, but we showed that we are done.

“It simply came to our notice then. The message in the middle was to stay together. We did what we said we wanted to do, which was getting better every week. From games like this you learn a lot, even when you win.

“We still have a lot to learn, make no mistake. But when you can win a game like this when you haven’t really fired a shot, show your courage. It’s great to come out with the victory. “

Courtney Lawes lifts the Ella-Mobbs Cup

The England captain is asked for some thoughts on the series, and says: “I want to thank him very much. We have been very well received: merit to the Australian team, what a challenge it was. We thank our fans and fans Australians to create such a fantastic atmosphere “.

Over Lawes advances towards his teammates, already in celebration formation behind the commemorative banner. With the Ella-Mobbs trophy in one hand, Lawes lifts it high above his head as the streamers fly. It was tough and sometimes gloomy, but if this is to be the last traditional summer tour, England will come out with a winning note.

F / T: Australia 17-21 England

The SCG has been quickly emptied when disappointed Australian fans leave Sydney on the night, but there are still a few pending the first presentation of the Ella-Mobbs Cup.

The player in the series is a Marika Koroibete, perhaps confused, who has changed shirts with Jack Nowell.

F / T! Australia 17-21 England

Tense, tight and untidy, but finally England emerges in Sydney. From 1-0, they have struggled to secure another series victory in Australia, securing the opening of the Ella-Mobbs Cup. It’s a series win that will do a lot for the youngsters on the roster, and also for some of the old guard.

Australia 17-21 England, 80 minutes

In Australia he gets to touch the ball back. But is it coming out of this ruck? The whistle sounds when a wrapper of bodies come together, and although the scrum would have been that of the Wallabies, the referee’s whistle will mark the end of the series. England has held on: they take the series 2-1.

Australia 17-21 England, 79 minutes

There is the new man Suliasi Vunivalu, but Owen Farrell is in charge. Samu Kerevi is everywhere, first on the left and then on the right.

But this is remarkable for the captains of England old and new: Owen Farrell and Courtney Lawes attack a breakdown, Lawes catches the ball again next to England. Jack van Poortvliet almost put Henry Arundell ahead another goal when he curled a free kick over the defensive wall and almost into the net, but the visitors’ keeper got there just in time to knock it wide.

Here comes Jack Willis, held above the line. Australia will have an abandonment of the goal line with time advancing towards the red …
