Cabinet ministers are meeting at No. 10 to tell Boris Johnson to resign, to an extent that could lead to the end of his term as prime minister, writes Ben Riley-Smith, political editor of The Telegraph.
Chris Heaton-Harris, the Whip in chief, told cabinet colleagues to meet after some of them threatened to resign unless something changed. Nadhim Zahawi, the new Chancellor, Grant Shapps, the Secretary of Transport, Simon Hart, the Welsh Secretary, Michelle Donelan, the new Secretary of Education have met there.
Brandon Lewis, the secretary for Northern Ireland, and Kwasi Kwarteng, the secretary for business, also want Mr Johnson to leave, but are currently out of London.
Other key ministers are blocked from traveling. Liz Truss is on a plane to Indonesia for an international trip. Ben Wallace is on a train this afternoon. Johnson is expected to be received by cabinet ministers imminently now that his appearance on the Liaison Committee is over.
