More than 13 months after South Carolina’s dishonored lawyer Alex Murdaugh called 911 and said he found his wife and son shot outside his home, a grand jury has charged him with murder in their murders.
But legal documents shed little light on the ongoing mystery about the deaths that captivated the public, which has clicked on hundreds of stories and podcasts detailing the dozens of other criminal charges that have accumulated in the months since that Murdaugh’s wife, Maggie, 52, and her 22-year-old son, Paul, was murdered on June 7, 2021.
Murdaugh, 54, has repeatedly denied any role in the deaths, saying he was visiting his sick mother and father and discovered his son and wife had been murdered when he returned to his farm.
