NSW Emergency Minister Steph Cooke says there is no such thing as “gilding the lily” – it will be difficult today.
“It is a very difficult time for Sydney residents, especially those communities that are experiencing their fourth flood in less than 18 months,” he told Today.
“We know they’re tired of all this bad weather. We just need people to keep working with us.”
With the spill of the Warragamba Dam (pictured) and again contributing to rising waters, Cooke said consideration is being given to raising the dam.
“These dams were not created as mitigation dams to begin with,” he said.
“They were water supply or irrigation dams. When you increase them for another purpose, it makes it a very big and complex project and process.”
