Raheem dreams of the bridge party…followed by Sunday lunch at Mom’s
Raheem Sterling can’t wait to be at his mum’s for lunch on Sunday after ‘crashing the goals’ at Stamford Bridge, writes JORDAN DAVIES.
And Chelsea’s £50million signing says he is now “mature and big enough” to deal with the distractions London has to offer.
Sterling, 27, made his debut for the Blues in the early hours of Thursday morning against Charlotte FC after completing his five-year move from Manchester City last week.
It feels like a welcome homecoming after growing up near Wembley Stadium and starting out in the QPR academy before heading north with Liverpool and then City.
Now, he’s back in the capital where it all began for him, but forget the nightlife and tourist attractions – the England international simply has family and football on his mind.
In his first interview since joining his teammates on their pre-season tour of the United States, he said: “Every time I go back to London it’s a surreal feeling.
“When I first came up north I never came down much. My family always came over so I could focus on work. London can be a distraction sometimes.
“But now I’m old enough, mature enough. For my children and my family, it will be a great opportunity to spend more quality time with my mother, their grandmother and be closer.
“You know what it’s like. You score or win a game, go to mom’s house and have dinner on a Sunday and show up again. It’s lovely.”
