“They were traveling in the back seat with a male patient, who was trapped in the car due to the damage to the vehicle,” he said.

“Emergency crews worked to free him, while paramedics and the air medical team treated the other patients on the side of the road.”

The first of five teenagers killed in a crash last week in Buxton, in Sydney’s south-west, has been released.

The funeral of 15-year-old Tyrese Bechard was held at a church in Picton on Thursday with a “huge turnout”, Wollondilly Shire Mayor Matt Gould said.

Funerals for 14-year-old Lily Van de Putte, 15-year-old Gabby McLennan, 14-year-old Summer Williams and 16-year-old Antonio Desisto will follow.

The five, all passengers, died at the intersection of Buxton’s East Parade and Orange Road when the Nissan Navara they were traveling in crashed into a tree.

Tyrell Edwards, 18, the driver, remains on remand in Silverwater Prison after he was refused bail in Picton Local Court last week on five counts of dangerous driving causing death.
