Long live the Russia-Ukraine war: ‘We have to break them … we have no alternative’, warns Zelensky

Ukraine’s allies meeting in Switzerland are due to adopt a statement on Tuesday outlining the principles and priorities for rebuilding the war-torn country, which will cost at least $ 750 billion.

Leaders from dozens of countries, international organizations and companies have met since Monday in the southern Swiss city of Lugano, under strict security, to discuss the best way forward for reconstruction, despite the war in Russia continues to anger Ukraine.

Speaking on the first day of the Recovery Conference of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a long line of government ministers described the massive destruction caused by the invasion of Russia on February 24th.

“Rebuilding Ukraine is not a local task of a single nation,” Zelensky said in a video message.

“It’s a common task of the entire democratic world,” he said.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said the recovery “is already estimated at $ 750 billion.”

“The key source of recovery should be the confiscated assets of Russia and the Russian oligarchs,” he said.

“The Russian authorities unleashed this bloody war. They caused this mass destruction and should be held responsible for it.”
