One Direction star Louis Tomlinson slammed Carrie Bickmore and Peter Helliar, accusing co-presenters of The Project of “throwing shit” during a tense appearance on the show Wednesday night.
The singer was on the Channel 10 program to promote his Down Under tour when they posed for a recent interview with former Louis bandmate Liam Payne, who talked about the difficult relationship between the band before their separation on 2015.
Helliar asked if there was any “beef” among the five former members of the gang.
Helliar asked, “Recently there has been a bit of 1D beef thanks to Liam, who has talked a bit about the band. When you look back on your experience with the band, how do you feel about your experience from those days?”
Louis replied, “Oh, so the fishing has already begun. Yes, I see what you’re doing … No, listen, I’m immensely proud, as I know Liam is, I’m immensely proud of those days, obviously. It was an amazing thing to do, especially at such a young age and I have amazing memories, amazing memories. “
Bickmore followed Tomlinson’s blow: “When you say fishing has begun, I imagine it’s annoying to have to answer retrospective questions like this. I’m interested in how much you want to talk about that time in your life in the media, versus how come you don’t want to be talked about again? she asked.
“I’m more than happy to talk about it in every interview,” Louis replied.
“It’s something I’m immensely proud of, like I said. It’s just when you mentioned beef before. It felt like you were getting ready to stir up some shit. That’s all I’m saying.”
Helliar jumped up quickly to say, Peter intervened, “No, I’m not so ** t agitator Louis, do you seem like ** t agitator?”.
Then, the interview became more awkward when Waleed Aly changed the subject: to the most successful former member of 1D, Harry Styles. Reading news that Styles now had a Texas college course entirely dedicated to him, Aly asked Tomlinson, “That should be you, right?”
“I really have no interest in taking a course on myself,” one visibly uncomfortable Tomlinson said.
“It’s a very strange thing that I’m not interested,” Aly said.
“He seems very interested. Maybe you should sign up,” Tomlinson replied.
The interview ended politely, but Tomlinson fans showed up on social media with their anger at the question line, flooding The Project’s Twitter account with hundreds of furious responses.
“You had such an interesting and kind person in your hands and you lost her completely (and you wasted everyone’s time). I’m here because I’m interested in Louis’ solo career, his next album and his personal projects, ”wrote one.
“You should have asked him for his WORLD tour, the album, the new album and all that stuff. But you made him uncomfortable with the annoying questions of 1D and H. Stop relating to that man or one of his former bandmates is now a soloist, RESPECT HIM, ”said another fan.
“Don’t waste time like that again. If you want to ask questions that have nothing to do with him, interview the people involved and leave him out. The man is busy on his first solo tour and still has the time to talk to you and you treat him like that. Do it better, ”wrote another.
Tomlinson is known to be quite outspoken in interviews: he headlined in 2019 for a scathing retort during a friendly appearance on James Corden’s talk show.
