An emergency alert says one person has died and the suspect is at large after a “shooting incident” in Langham, Sask.
The suspect, Justin Heimbecker, is described as six feet and three inches tall and with brown eyes. He was last seen walking and is believed to have been armed, although police do not know where he is or whether he has access to a vehicle, according to the alert.
The first incident alert was issued Friday at 7:40 a.m. CST. A subsequent update with Heimbecker’s description was issued shortly after 9 a.m. CST.
Councilwoman Carol Epp said early Friday that until now it was unclear what exactly was happening in the city about 30 miles northwest of Saskatoon.
“We stayed inside because we didn’t get out. We saw police cars pass by, we heard sirens, but that’s it,” Epp said. “There are a thousand things on Facebook, but no one seems to know.”

Residents of the Langham area are asked to seek refuge, close doors and windows and not leave any safe place.
“I looked out my door when I first received the notice, but I didn’t see anyone,” said Mitch Deschambeault, owner of Three Bean Cafe in Langham. “I think everyone has already closed and everything. We decided not to open the doors, obviously, so I’m looking forward to seeing more information.”
The RCMP is responding and has asked the public not to disclose the location of the agents on social media.
The alert says more information will be posted as it becomes available.
