Ricky Martin’s lawyer has spoken out after allegations of domestic violence against the singer.
In early July, the Associated Press reported that a restraining order had been filed against Martin. At that time, the identity of the complainant was protected by the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act. The documents indicated that the petitioner feared for his safety.
Martin denied these claims. The former Menudo star made a statement on social media on the subject.
“The protection order he presented to me is based on completely false allegations, so I will respond in court with the facts and dignity that characterize me,” he wrote.
“As it is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make detailed statements at this time. I am grateful for the countless messages of solidarity, and I receive them wholeheartedly.”
On July 13, the Spanish news portal Marca reported that Martin’s nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, had filed the complaint against his uncle. Sanchez claimed his uncle had been physically and psychologically abused during a seven-month romantic relationship.
Now, Marty Singer, a lawyer for Martin, is talking.
“Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges,” Singer said in a statement to Yahoo.
“Ricky Martin, of course, has never been and never would have been involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew. The idea is not only false, but disgusting,” he continued. “We all hope this man gets the help he needs so urgently. But most of all, we hope this terrible case is dismissed as soon as a judge can examine the facts.”
Mark claims the American Crime Story star could face up to 50 years in prison if convicted.
Martin is also being sued by his former manager, Rebecca Drucker. Drucker claims the “Livin ‘La Vida Loca” singer owes him more than $ 3 million in unpaid commissions.
Variety reports that the documents refer to a “potentially career-ending charge” that Drucker was able to protect the singer’s career and guide Martin in 2020.
