It’s been almost a decade since GTA 5, and developer Rockstar may be starting to feel the pinch. The study, which admitted this week that it is effectively abandoning Red Dead Online, said it understands “more than ever the need to exceed players’ expectations and to [GTA 6] to be the best possible ”.
To be honest, it hasn’t been the best period for the gigantic company. Dissatisfied Red Dead Online fans are planning an in-game funeral for the multiplayer mode, as Rockstar redirects resources to other sites. Meanwhile, last year’s GTA trilogy was criticized and, although it has improved over the past few months, it’s still not as good as it could and should be.
All of this, of course, serves as a backdrop for its continued reliance on GTA 5. While the recent PS5 port of the 2013 open world classic is excellent, it’s starting to show its age and it’s been a long time coming. that a sequel is expected. The good news is that the company is finally listening to fan feedback for GTA Online and will release a lot of necessary improvements later in the summer.
But the jury is still very much up for GTA 6. Speculation says this will be a very different experience than long-awaited fans, with an emphasis on multiplayer and online connectivity. It will be fascinating to see what the company proposes, especially considering that a number of veteran, high-profile staff have moved into new pastures.
