Six people have been rushed to hospital on suspicion of carbon monoxide poisoning in west Sydney.
Paramedics attended the Merrylands home shortly before 5 a.m., where they treated two children and four adults.
The family is believed to have heated a grandmother’s flat with a type of barbecue heater.

Paramedics rushed to the scene amid reports that a person in the home had fallen ill with “headaches.”
Several sick people were found on the property.
Only when relatives showed photographs of the burner to paramedics did they begin to understand exactly what had happened.
“All patients were nauseous and showed signs of drowsiness, according to carbon monoxide poisoning,” said NSW Ambulance Inspector Andrew McAlpine.
“Fortunately, one person was conscious enough to call Triple Zero, avoiding a possible tragedy.
“In this cold weather, it’s very important to follow public messages about staying safe while you shelter and having alarm systems that work.”
Upon arrival, paramedics evaluated six patients, four adults and two children. (9 News)
Family members have been transferred to Westmead Hospital and Westmead Children’s Hospital.
It comes when NSW Health urges residents not to use outdoor heaters or indoor barbecue heaters.
“Outdoor heaters and barbecues produce carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas that cannot be seen, tasted or smelled,” he said.

Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include:
- headache
- nausea and stomach ache
- vomiting
- light headed
- weakness
- fainting
- confusion
- tiredness.
