Inevitably, there will be a PS5 Slim. Not least because the current PS5 is the size and shape of a Dubai skyscraper, but also because Sony is always launching a thinner version of its consoles after a few years. But we’re at least a couple of years away from that, which means we need to move on to the modern hero Matthew Perks of the YouTube channel DIY Perks. Who achieved his goal using water pumps, circular saws and an oven.
Thinner than the current PS5 might not be the biggest challenge. Much of the width of the giant machine comes from the flowers in its carcass, along with an absolutely huge power supply. Matt’s approach to the project is surprisingly ambitious, replacing absolutely anything that ventures too far into three-dimensional realms with his own pirated creations at home.
Aside from the power supply, the Sony-designed PS5 has some pretty sticky heatsinks and other cooling requirements. Given the temperature that the machine pumps, this would clearly be the most important part to replace. But because water cooling requires thick pipes, this led Perks on the most extraordinary route of building his own handmade water cooling system between copper foils.
The more I watched this video, the more I felt like: a) I haven’t achieved anything with my life and I’m a fool who can barely tie my shoelaces, and b) Matthew Perks is a real magician.
Just listen to him say things like, “I found out that the original PS5 requires an old diamond that is only at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro,” and then he replies to himself, “But I realized I could replace it with a plug. which I transmogrified into gold using alchemy and this plastic tube. ” And he does it while he’s so ridiculously nice.
Seriously, this video is a whole emotional roller coaster ride, and while I won’t spoil anything, it’s a joy to realize that the two-month-long project didn’t check things off on camera before filming.
For God’s sake, unless you’re a real magician too, please don’t try anything like this yourself. You will definitely die and possibly kill others around you as you do.
Also, be sure to watch other videos about the benefits of DIY, because they are great.
