Union Station has been closed following a shooting that left one person deadly, according to Toronto police.

Around 7:50 p.m., Toronto police said they were responding to a shooting in the York Street and Bremner Boulevard area in the entertainment district.

Police said they later located a man with life-threatening injuries.

The paramedics also went to the scene, but said they had not moved anyone.

A large number of police officers and vehicles could be seen outside the Scotland Bank Arena on Saturday evening.

Police have so far not provided any suspicious information.

The busy station blockade comes when a crowd of people have poured into the city center for various weekend events, including a Blue Jays match and the Honda Indy Toronto.

Metro service has been suspended between Osgoode and Bloor-Yonge stations on line 1, the TTC said. It is unclear how long the suspension will last.

The Go Transit service and the Union-Pearson Express (UP Express) have also been affected by the shooting.

“GO trains are not currently entering or leaving Union Station and otherwise are on hold until police determine that everyone is safe,” Metrolinx spokeswoman Fannie Sunshine told CP24.com. “All our staff are safe and in a safe place.”

He said safety is the traffic agency’s top priority and added that they will keep customers informed of developments.

THE BEARING COMES WITH TORONTO WE HAVE BEEN 10 YEARS SINCE DANZIG

The city’s latest shooting comes as Toronto commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Danzig Street shooting, in which two people were shot dead and dozens more were injured after a shootout broke out between rival gangs at a block party on July 16, 2012.

Shayanne Charles, 14, and Joshua Yasay, 17, were killed in the incident, one of Toronto’s worst mass shootings.

The deadly shooting also became a symbol of the city’s ongoing struggle to curb armed violence.

Earlier in the day, the city said the Toronto sign will be dimmed Saturday night “to commemorate the 2012 Danzig tragedy, the lives lost and for those who continue to be affected by armed violence in Toronto.” .
