The 2022 U.S. Open has become an all-time classic, with Will Zalatoris and Matthew Fitzpatrick occupying the top of the standings at 4 less than entering the last 18 holes. Having both played a prominent role in last month’s PGA Championship, the two are still looking not only for their first major league victories, but also their first PGA Tour victories. After playing splendidly for the first three days, there is still work to be done, as a number of top-tier players have lined up behind them.
Defending champion Jon Rahm, who if it weren’t for a hole 18 mistake would have taken the lead on the last day at The Country Club, is down 3 points. He will be in the penultimate group with Keegan Bradley, a native of New England, who will have the full support of the Massachusetts crowd behind him. Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, four-time major championship winner Rory McIlroy and world number 9 Sam Burns are also within reach, preparing for what will surely be a memorable final round of the 122nd US Open.
