“Tipping point”: Ukraine begins receiving Western weapons for air defense
Vladimir Putin has said he has no regrets about the war in Ukraine and warned that any direct clash of NATO troops with Russia could lead to a “global catastrophe”.
Speaking at a press conference in the Kazakh capital Astana, the Russian president also said his country’s partial mobilization will end in two weeks.
Putin, who has said he would be willing to use nuclear weapons to defend Russia’s “territorial integrity”, warned that a direct confrontation with NATO troops was a “very dangerous step”.
The Kremlin leader said the recent attacks in Ukraine that killed civilians were a response to an attack that damaged the Kerch Bridge, which links the Russian mainland to annexed Crimea.
Asked if he regretted the conflict, he said “no” and insisted Russia was doing the right thing. He added, however, that there is “no need” for more mass strikes in Ukraine.
“Now we have other tasks,” he said.

US to send ammunition and military vehicles to Ukraine in latest aid package
The United States will send ammunition and military vehicles to Ukraine as part of a new $725 million security assistance package aimed at bolstering the country’s defenses against Russian encroachment, the Defense Department said Friday.
The package is the first since Russia’s missile barrage was fired at civilian population centers in Ukraine this week. It will bring total US security assistance since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 to more than $17.5 billion.
The contents of the latest package, first reported by Reuters, include high-velocity anti-radiation missiles (HARMs) and precision-guided artillery, as well as medical supplies, the Defense Department said in a statement.
President Joe Biden issued a statement authorizing the secretary of state “to direct the withdrawal of up to $725 million in Defense Department defense items and services, and military education and training” to help Ukraine.
