Video footage showed local men throwing the giant snake with a long stick and hitting its head.
They then cut open her stomach with knives and machetes, exposing the woman’s remains.
It is speculated that the clearing of forests for the cultivation of palm oil in countries such as Indonesia is causing greater contact between pythons and humans.
The local village chief, named Anto, said the woman would have been snatched by the snake’s jaws and then slowly suffocated to death.
“The victim did not return home after saying goodbye to his family to go to the garden to collect rubber from the trees on Friday. Her family then reported her missing to local authorities, and a search has been underway ever since.
“The snake was killed by the locals, who then dissected its stomach. Everyone was shocked. It turned out that the woman we were looking for was in the snake’s stomach.”
