The Magpies have only themselves to blame for glaring at the Dockers in term three, the visitors opening the scoring when Lachie Schultz, their most dangerous forward, handballed Griffin Logue for a major from the goal.
The Pies’ inaccuracy was costly, Ash Johnson with two missed attempts on goal adding to the frustration, while Jack Ginnivan was busy but failed to convert.
However, that changed when Ginnivan cleared the pack about 20 meters out and got his (left) foot on the ball for a tight goal. A point by Elliott soon after extended the lead to a game-high 32 points.
Caleb Serong, Andrew Brayshaw and Blake Acres, the latter with an injured knee, battled hard but the Magpies’ midfield area was hard to deny.
The Dockers secured a famous victory over the Western Bulldogs last week in a thrilling final term. They hope to do it again.
