Apple Maps begins collecting images across Canada, including Moose Jaw

Apple is starting its ground surveys with vehicles around the world to collect data to improve Apple Maps and support the Look Around feature.

In the coming weeks, Apple Maps will focus on surveying towns and cities in Saskatchewan.

According to Apple’s website, 18 communities in Saskatchewan are being surveyed. They include:

  • Kindersley
  • La Ronge
  • Lloydminster
  • Maple Creek
  • Melfort
  • Melville
  • Moose Jaw
  • North Battleford
  • Prince Albert
  • queen
  • Saskatoon
  • fast running
  • Weyburn
  • Wynyard
  • Yorkton

Apple will censor faces and license plates in images posted to Look Around.

The company said that image collection would primarily be done by Apple Maps vehicles, but that certain pedestrian areas would require handheld systems to use.

Surveys in selected communities will begin on August 8 and end on September 30.

Residents can contact Apple to request that a face, license plate, or house be censored if it was captured in the survey process by emailing MapsImageCollection@apple.com.
