MMA Fighting has live updates of Canelo Alvarez vs. GGG 3 round by round for one of the best boxing fights of the year taking place Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

This is the third meeting between the two fighters. The first time they fought in 2017 it was decided to a split draw and Alvarez won a majority decision over GGG on September 15, 2018.

Round 1: Golovkin scores with a hard right off the bell. Canelo looks to get his own jab going as they take their time sizing each other up. Left hook from Canelo. Staring right into Canelo’s body. Not much coming out of either fighter with less than a minute left in the opening round. Canelo having more success with his jab, takes the first three minutes without incident.

Round 2: Canelo jabs, then gets adventurous with a left jab. Golovkin getting busier with his jab. Canelo scores, but hasn’t been able to land his hardest punches. Jab from Canelo, Golovkin attacks the body. Canelo happy to punch. Right hand to the body by Canelo. The action is still a bit tentative through two rounds.

Round 3: Big counter left by Canelo lands, biggest shot of the fight so far. Canelo doubles the jab. Golovkin uses his own jab to settle things. Canelo storms forward. Golovkin connects with a jab. Canelo lands one of his own.

Round 4: Canelo strings punches together, Golovkin isn’t able to do much beyond the jab. Canelo is also working on his jab. Right hand over the top from Canelo, then a right to the body. A combo sets up a glancing right hand across the chin for Canelo. Golovkin lands a jab, but Canelo backhands him again with a right.

Round 5: Golovkin triples on a jab. Canelo holds him, there’s a right to the body, then a left. Canelo rips off another good one to the body. Jab-jab-body jab combo score for Canelo. Golovkin starts throwing right hands. Canelo with good head movement. Golovkin hits him with a jab. Left hook from Canelo, then a body shot that sends an off-balance Golovkin back a couple of steps. Goal for Canelo. The champion walks away at the end of a closer round.

Round 6: Canelo with a jab to open round 6 and has Golovkin around. As Golovkin tries to come in, Canelo punches him to the body and lands a short hook. Golovkin with a 1-2. He pauses Canelo with a jab. Canelo rips the body. Little of Golovkin’s offense is happening before he lands an uppercut. Another hard left to the body lands for Canelo.

Round 7: Canelo scores with a left hand and avoids a couple of counters from Golovkin. Right cross from Canelo leads to a clinch. Left hook scores for Canelo. Uppercut by Canelo. He chases it down and Golovkin isn’t putting up much. Canelo body slams him. Canelo hits Golovkin with a right hand. He keeps a steady jab that Golovkin can’t figure out.

Round 8: There’s Golovkin’s jab, but we’ve yet to see much more than that. Canelo with another left hook as they circle. He throws another left that lands. Canelo wins an exchange of lefts. Lands his left to Golovkin’s body. Jab-jab-body combination lands for Canelo. Golovkin shows signs of life, but Canelo immediately backs him up with a counter. Golovkin lands a right hand.

Round 9: Canelo triples the jab, then follows up with a left and a right. Uppercut to the body by Canelo. Goal for Canelo. Canelo still beats Golovkin to the punch. Golovkin with a jab and finally lands a couple of power punches as Canelo goes on the defensive. Canelo doubles with a jab. Golovkin lands a right. Left hand from Golovkin, then straight right. Canelo responds with two clean punches. Canelo hits the body.

Round 10: Golovkin definitely loses after finally winning a round. Golovkin by right left. Canelo mixing it up to the head and body, lands an uppercut. Hard body shot by Canelo. Uppercut by Golovkin. Canelo with a counter left. Both fighters look to establish their jab. Short punch inside lands for Canelo.

Round 11: There’s a cut over Canelo’s eye from an accidental headbutt. Golovkin just fired that job now. Canelo counters with body work and goes headhunting with his uppercut. Canelo sneaked his way around Golovkin’s guard. Golovkin stays busy with his jab. Golovkin to the body. He needs a knockout, though, if he wants to get that elusive win against Canelo.

Round 12: Canelo marches forward with his flying left hook. Golovkin just misses with an uppercut. They are getting sloppy with their clinch work. Golovkin hits Canelo with a jab. Much more grappling than boxing in this round. Left uppercut for Canelo. Golovkin gets a 1-2 down the middle. Good shot to the body for Canelo. They exchange punches before the bell and then embrace.

After the fight, Canelo thanks Golovkin for the trilogy. “We gave the fans three good fights. Thanks for everything.”
Canelo adds that he plans to have surgery on his left hand after the fight.
“Everybody knows this is a high-level class for boxing,” Golovkin said after the fight. “Everyone knows this is Canelo. You miss a punch, he can finish the fight. Look at his face, look at my face. We’ve trained well and it shows that we’ve put up a really good fight as a result of that.”
“Today, Canelo is better,” Golovkin added.
Golvkin agrees that the beef between him and Canelo is “100 percent” and compares them to LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.
They shake hands and hug afterwards.
Canelo is asked about a rematch with Dmitry Bivol and says it’s a fight he wants, but “I need to rest.” Bivol defeated Canelo last May and defends the WBA light heavyweight title against Gilberto Ramírez on November 5.
