Chris Hemsworth got some surprising news about his new Disney+ series, Limitless.
In the show, Hemsworth tackles physical and mental challenges in hopes of fighting aging and living a healthier life.
In a conversation with the longevity doctor Dr. Peter Attia, the actor learns that he is 8 to 10 times more likely than the average individual to develop Alzheimer’s disease.
“We have every blood test that can be done,” Attia tells Hemsworth on the show. “And you have two copies of APOE4. One set from your mother and one set from your father.”
APOE4 is the gene that has the strongest correlation with the development of Alzheimer’s disease, but not much is known about it.
“The thought that I won’t be able to remember the life I lived, or my wife, my children, is probably my biggest fear,” he said. Thor star candidly shared in the episode.
Hemsworth is married to actress Elsa Pataky and they have three children, India, 10, and eight-year-old twins Sasha and Tristan.
Attia told the 39-year-old Australian: “I think if we take all the steps we can, we can reduce your risk to that of anyone else.”
The actor also revealed that his grandfather suffers from the disease. “He also doesn’t remember who we are, you know, his grandchildren, but also his own children, for years. It’s heartbreaking.”
Despite the shocking news, Hemsworth wasn’t deterred from getting to work. Throughout the episode, he challenges himself to memorize a hiking route without maps or any additional help.
The show, produced by National Geographic, features the actor going through various tests to improve his overall health, including wearing an age-simulating suit, cold therapy, a ropes challenge and many other obstacles.
