ATLANTA — No. 4 Clemson has begun to pull away from a Georgia Tech squad, scoring 10 points in the third quarter to make it a 24-10 game. Tigers quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has had his ups and downs, but he capped a nine-play, 74-yard drive with a 9-yard touchdown run late in the frame to give his team some cushion.
The touchdown was critical for a Tigers team that hasn’t had much success holding drives. For the first time all night, coach Dabo Swinney picked up the pace and held a Georgia Tech defense that had been living in the backfield long enough for Uiagalelei to make plays when he needed to.
Clemson’s defensive line has been relentless in this one. The Tigers have seven tackles for loss, one of which was a sack, and have limited the Yellow Jackets to just four yards per play. The running game for the Jackets has stagnated, with five players combining for just 67 yards on 21 carries for an average of 3.2 yards per carry. Clemson’s defensive line was widely regarded as one of the best in the game, and it showed on Labor Day night.
