NFL player Damar Hamlin had to be resuscitated twice after going into cardiac arrest on the field during a game Monday night, according to his family.
The Buffalo Bills player remains in critical condition at the hospital after he collapsed to the ground after making a tackle on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins before being treated by first responders.
“His heart had gone and he had to be resuscitated twice. He was resuscitated in the field before he was taken to the hospital and then resuscitated a second time when he was taken to the hospital,” Hamlin’s uncle Dorrian Glenn told CNN.
“Damar Hamlin was transferred to the intensive care unit last night and remains in critical condition today at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. We are thankful and grateful for the outpouring of support we have received thus far,” the Bills stated in Twitter this Tuesday.
Hamlin’s family thanked the fans and praised the work of the medical staff and the support of the Bengals and coach Zac Taylor. “We are deeply moved by the prayers, kind words and donations from fans across the country,” read a statement Tuesday.

NFL players union issues statement on Hamlin
ICYMI: The NFL Players Association released a statement Tuesday, saying, “Our focus remains on Damar.”
The union said it has reached out to both teams to make sure “the Bills and Bengals players have all the resources” available after Monday night’s shocking incident.
The NFLPA also encouraged players to reach out if they felt the need to talk to someone and provided links to the union’s mental health counseling resources.

Niagara Falls lit up blue in support of Damar Hamlin
Niagara Falls and Buffalo City Hall were lit up blue Tuesday night to show support for recovering athlete Damar Hamlin.
Niagara Falls USA and Niagara Parks said the falls were lit for about 15 minutes at 9 p.m.
The falls, located on the U.S.-Canada border, were one of several locations across the country lit up in Buffalo Bills colors after Hamlin collapsed Monday night.

Damar Hamlin’s No. 3 jersey is one of the top-selling jerseys at Fanatics, a sports apparel company, according to Pro Football Focus.
All proceeds from Hamlin’s shirt sales will be donated to his GoFundMe toy drive. It has raised $5.6m (£4.7m) in the 24 hours since its collapse.
The football player launched donations to a toy drive in 2020. The donation money went to toys for needy children in his hometown of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania.

Skip Bayless apologizes for hosting ‘Undisputed’ after Hamlin’s injury
ICYMI: The Fox Sports host has come under fire for a tweet he made in the moments after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest on the field Monday night.
During the incident, Bayless tweeted: “No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game, but how? At the end of the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the outcome of the regular season. .. which suddenly seems so irrelevant.”
Bayless later claimed that his original tweet had been misunderstood.
“There is nothing more important than the health of this young man. That was the point of my last tweet. Sorry if this was misunderstood, but his health is the only thing that matters,” Bayless tweeted.
But following the controversy, her co-host Shannon Sharpe did not appear on the show on Tuesday.
At the start of Tuesday’s Undisputed, Bayless didn’t mention his tweet, but he seemed excited and said he had continued with the show after “barely sleeping.”
“I apologize for what we’re going to do here today if it offends anyone because we’re going to try to do the show pretty much as we always do,” he said.
“I’ll admit right up front that I’m still shaken up by what happened last night with Damar Hamlin. In fact, I’m still devastated. In fact, I’m not sure I’m going to be able to do this show today.”
