Four people rescued from the Scooby-Doo roller coaster at Movie World on the Gold Coast

Four people have been rescued safely after spending an hour and a half trapped 10 meters in the air at a Gold Coast theme park.

The group was on the Scooby-Doo Coaster at Warner Brothers Movie World in Oxenford, the theme park’s scariest ride, when it stopped around 3:30 p.m.

A Movie World spokesman said the ride had encountered a technical glitch during a minor “guest behavior incident” that forced it to stop.

It is believed that a passenger removed an item of clothing, causing the carriage attached to the upper part of the ride to become stuck.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services officers worked with management to retrieve the trapped passengers using a cherry picker.

Other carriages were able to stop at safe withdrawal points, where passengers could safely disembark.

In a statement, Movie World said all guests arrived safely.

“Guests on board were completely safe throughout the process and our team of experts were in constant communication with them.”

“The safety and well-being of our guests is our highest priority and our team undertakes regular training with QFES on these scenarios and we would like to thank them for their assistance.”

The operations and maintenance team will conduct internal investigations into the incident.
