Local news Several eastern health emergency services are closing next week due to staff shortages

Emergency services are unavailable for an extended period at two Eastern Health Centers, while a third will be closed for a 24-hour period.

From Monday, August 1 at 8:00 am and until August 8, the emergency services of Dr. William H. Newhook Community Health Center in Whitbourne will be closed due to staff shortages.

Also starting August 1, the US Memorial Health Center in St. Lawrence will be closed for ten days, and will reopen on Wednesday, August 10. Family practice clinics and outpatient laboratory services will continue by appointment.

The Bonavista Peninsula Health Center will be closed from Monday, at 8:00 a.m. until Tuesday, at 8:00 a.m.

Patients requiring immediate care are asked to call 9-1-1 or go directly to the nearest emergency department.
