Announced back in October, we finally got a look at the Phyrexia: All Will Be One expansion during this week’s WeeklyMTG show. A release date of February 10, 2023 has also been set, with pre-orders open now. Magic: The Gathering has been rolling out expansions and its 2023 schedule is stacked, so start saving your pennies.
The story of the Phyrexian War has a long history, crossing several expansions. A testament to the creative team behind these Phyrexia cards, characters, and storylines have been building with this expansion, the 95th Magic: The Gathering expansion. Its release was delayed due to the busy nature of the release schedule, but not by much.
This culmination of the Phyrexian War, with its body horror and twisted landscapes, will reveal 10 Planeswalkers tasked with taking down Elesh Norn, the Mother of Machines. Which means there will be plenty of evil machines and warriors to back him up. Some of these cards will be reimagined with borderless manga art, and others with oil-stained foil treatments.
Raised foil is something that Magic: The Gathering hasn’t delved into before, so it should be interesting to see which cards get this alternate look. These cards will be included in the Phyrexia: All Will Be One: Complete Edition pack, which will be released on March 3, 2023. There will also be three Phyrexian-themed Secret Lair releases on the way to the main release date.
Jumpstart Boosters will continue with the Phyrexia: All Will Be One expansion, offering players a different way to play. If that’s not enough, two new Commander decks will complement the expansion. Corrupting Influence (White/Black/Green) and Rebellion Rising (Red/White) will include a Collector Booster sample pack. Additionally, Magic: The Gathering’s 30th anniversary continues into 2023, and players have a chance to get some 30th anniversary promo cards at local Phyrexia: All Will Be One Prerelease events.
The Brothers’ War introduced some amazing new creatures and art cards, this trend continues with Phyrexia: All Will Be One. There are some seriously head-turning mythics and rares, not to mention a slew of newly represented lands. Some of the mythic and rare creatures include horror creatures Phyrexian Obliterator, legendary creatures Jor Kadeen, First Goldwarden, Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines (and a full alternate art by Junji Ito), Slobad, Iron Goblin, and the legendary Planeswalker Koth, Fire of Resistance.

This Phyrexian Obliterator will be a great addition to any mean spirit black deck. As if there was any kind of black cover. Planeswalkers don’t stand a chance against some of these creatures. Elesh Norn looks like something out of Hellraiser, and you wouldn’t want to run into Slobad in the mountains. Plus, with these floors, everything will look great on your playmat.

The constant reimagining of lands is a great addition to the Magic: The Gathering card library. There is always a mystical twist to something as simple as earth cards. These variations on the classic Forest, Swamp, Plains, Mountain and Island cards feature simply stunning art from a host of talented artists.
Artists include: Alayna Danner (Full Art Island, Mountain, Swamp, Plains, Forest), Mark Riddick (Phyrexian Forest, Swamp, Plains, Mountain, Island), Julian Kok Joon Wen (Basic Swamp), Muhammad Firdaus (Mountain basic), David Alvarez (basic island), Nadia Hurianova (basic forest) and Sergey Glushakov (basic plains). As if that wasn’t enough, the Oil Slick Raised Foil lands add some creepy sparkle to an already outstanding selection of artistically awesome land cards.

Featuring art by Alayna Danner, Dan Mumford, Evan Cagle, Indra Nugroho, and Daria Khlebnikova, these oil-stained aluminum cards add a new dimension to your Magic: The Gathering decks. Remember replacing so many normal lands in your decks with foils or full art lands, just so you could show off some flash when you hit that mana? It’s a bit like that. Will there be raised aluminum creatures? Sure, starting with the villain of the bunch, Elesh Norn is back again with art by Pablo Potier.

The additional art types revealed during the WeeklyMTG show will make it hard to resist pre-ordering the Phyrexia: All Will Be One expansions. Borderless Manga, Borderless Concept Praetors and Borderless Ichor Showcase cards showcase amazing alternative art.

The Phyrexia: All Will Be One expansion will be here before you know it, some of us are still working on The Brothers’ War expansion. While revealed creatures are powerful additions to any (format-resistant) deck, it’s the art of these land cards and raised sheets that will send most of us to our local comic shop for packs of reinforcement Phyrexia: All Will Be One is out on February 10th at all retailers that carry this kind of thing.
