Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is due to appear in court next month in connection with a common assault charge, which is believed to be related to an ex-girlfriend.
ACT police confirmed Tuesday night that a 27-year-old man from Watson, a suburb of Canberra, was scheduled to face ACT investigating court on August 2 in connection with a charge of common aggression.
Kyrgios made no comment as he passed by reporters who were going to train at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

“It’s in the context of a domestic relationship,” he told the newspaper.
“The nature of the charge is serious and Mr Kyrgios takes the charge very seriously.
“Given that the matter is before the court … it has no comment at this stage, but over time it will issue a press release.”
Moffett did not respond to 9News calls Tuesday afternoon.

Pierre Johannessen, another lawyer representing Kyrgios, said the “precise nature” of the allegations “is not certain at this time nor is it confirmed either by the prosecution or by” the 27-year-old professional tennis player.
In an emailed statement to the media, Johannessen said “the allegations are not considered facts” by the court, and Kyrgios is not “considered charged” with a crime until his first court appearance.
“While Mr. Kyrgios is committed to addressing all allegations once clear, taking the matter seriously does not guarantee any misreading of the process that Kyrgios must follow,” Johannessen said.

Police said the indictment stemmed from an incident in December 2021.

An ATP spokesman said: “The ATP is aware of the Australian case involving Nick Kyrgios, but as legal proceedings are underway, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
