The bomb squad is responding to a suspected explosive device in Melbourne’s south-east.
Police were called to Cranbourne on Saturday morning to conduct a security check on a man in a vehicle.
“Officers were called to Cranbourne Drive to conduct a welfare check on a man seen in a vehicle at around 11.50am,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“When police arrived, the vehicle was unoccupied, but a firearm and a suspected improvised explosive device were located inside.”
Neighboring properties on Cranbourne Drive were evacuated as a precaution.

The Bomb Response Unit is attending the scene.
“The man seen in the vehicle has not yet been located and inquiries are ongoing,” police said.
