Biden was motivated to run for office in large part because he looked better positioned to defeat Donald Trump. He still considers making Trump out of the White House one of his major contributions to the well-being of the United States. And with Trump approaching as a potential Republican candidate, he is now looking at a September announcement, Biden maintains that he is even better positioned to beat him.
Biden may seek re-election in any case, people in his inner circle say, but if Trump shows up, Biden is much more likely to do so. And if Trump stops, it will be much easier for other Democrats to approach Biden to let someone else face a younger Republican candidate.
