The United States takes a huge 4-1 lead into Day 2 of the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Golf Club. The U.S. looked right at home in Charlotte, and the Americans look poised to win their 12th Presidents Cup if all goes according to plan. Adding to their dominance in the quarters on Thursday, they now shift their attention to the four balls, where the American side has tied with the international team since 2007.
The Internationals team will once again send Adam Scott out first, although the senior member of the visiting team will battle it out with Hideki Matsuyama on Day 1. He will be paired with fellow Australian Cameron Davis as the pair look to defeat the american duet by Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. In total, five four-ball matches will be played as Trevor Immelman’s side try to get back into contention.
Against all odds, trailing by three points early in the competition is not insurmountable for a visiting team, as the United States proved in 2019 at Royal Melbourne. In Australia, the United States lost the first session by the same scoreline 4-1 only to lift the Presidents Cup at the end of the week with a 16-14 victory. While the likelihood of the international team replicating this feat is slim, it remains a possibility heading into the second day of the event.
