Samsung’s self-repair program debuts for Galaxy device owners

Samsung allows owners of Galaxy S20, S21 and Galaxy Tab S7+ devices to do their own repairs.

The tech giant is partnering with iFixit to offer the program. Noted for being a leader in the online repair community, customers who want to do their own repairs can purchase device parts from iFixit. Samsung 837 and Samsung retail locations will also offer original device parts.

Users can replace the phone’s screen, back glass, and charging ports. Customers can also check repair guides for free online.

The program builds on the company’s plan to expand “convenient repairs” and extend the life of devices.

“Samsung continues to provide more convenient options for consumers to expand the use of their devices, promote a circular economy and minimize e-waste,” said Mark Williams, vice president of customer service, Samsung Electronics America.

“Samsung Self-Repair is another way for customers to extend the life of their devices before they are recycled.”

The company will offer return labels to allow consumers to return unwanted parts to Samsung at no additional cost. Samsung says it will expand the program to include more devices and repair options. However, it is important to note that the program is not available in Canada at this time.

Samsung is not the first company to offer this program. In November, Apple launched its own DIY repair program for iPhone and Mac.

Samsung offers other options to help Galaxy smartphone owners extend the life of their devices.

In person, Same Day service allows US residents access to thousands of locations for device repair, with wait times mostly under two hours. In addition, its “We Come To You” service allows customers to have their device repaired by a member of the mobile team.
