Penn State leads Purdue 21-10 at the half in a game that had a wild swing right before the halftime whistle. Both teams made mistakes and allowed the other team to capitalize. Penalties kept drives alive that resulted in touchdowns for both teams, but the first turnover of the night may have turned this game on its head.
After Penn State took a 14-10 lead late in the first half, Purdue ran a good ball and was in Penn State territory when Zakee Wheatley stripped TJ Sheffield. Penn State’s Joey Porter recovered the fumble, but instead of taking a knee and going into the locker room with a lead, Penn State was aggressive and took shots downfield. Sean Clifford found tight end Brenton Strange for a 67-yard touchdown with 2 seconds left in the half to make it a 21-10 game. If there’s any good news for Purdue, it’s getting the ball to start the second half without either quarterback having a notably big game through 30 minutes. In fact, the MVP might be Penn State’s Barney Amor, who has done an excellent job pinning the Boilermakers in their own territory with his kicks.
