The Tory leadership race fills the front pages of newspapers with focus on Boris Johnson’s possible return to the top spot.
Rishi Sunak, whose supporters claim he has crossed the threshold of 100 MPs needed to get on the ballot, also featured prominently as the contest intensified.
The Guardian has “Tory tribes go to war”, reporting that Johnson was gaining ground while former chancellor Sunak remained the favorite to become party leader.
The email splashes what it describes as “the tantalizing question” above the headline “Could Boris and Rishi now unite to save the Tories?”.
El Sol says “Boris breaks the silence” and publishes the headline “I’m ready to do it!” next to a smiling picture of the former prime minister.
The Express follows the same line with “Boris: I’m ready…we’ll do this”.
The Mirror’s take is “Surely…not again” above a photo of Johnson and his wife, Carrie, on vacation in the Caribbean. It reports the former prime minister’s No10 hopefuls “sparked fury among grieving Covid families” when the paper launched a petition for a general election.
The FT reflects concern over Johnson’s potential leadership bid with its headline “Investors and MPs alarmed by idea of Johnson return to No 10”.
Times Says ‘Johnson Will Be Fatal'”. Under the headline, the paper writes “The Hague warns of Tory death spiral, calls former PM’s return worst idea in 46 years”.

The Telegraph publishes a picture of the former chancellor and the headline “Sunak runs to secure Tory MP majority”.
And the Star moved on to a new “salad-based pun”, writing “They’ve thrown out the lettuce, now they’re serving… Eggplant”.
