Two dead, 10 hospitalized after vehicle crashes into West Vancouver wedding party: police

Two people are dead after a car crashed into a wedding party at a private residence in West Vancouver on Saturday.

West Vancouver police initially reported three fatalities, but have since issued a correction and now say there are two fatalities.

Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident call near the 400 block of Keith Road, east of Park Royal around 6:10 p.m.

Police tell Global News that the driver, a woman in her 60s, was pulling out of a shared driveway next door, sped forward and drove several people into the wedding.

BC Emergency Health Services said 12 units, including 11 ground and one air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene shortly before 6:30 p.m.

As of 9 p.m. on Saturday, ten people have been admitted to hospital, two of whom are in a critical condition and three in a serious condition.

The remaining five were transported in stable condition, BCEHS added.

“Unfortunately, it was just a tragic tragic incident,” West Vancouver Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Jeremy Duncan said.

“It doesn’t appear to be anything intentional or criminal, it just appears to be an accident and a very, very sad situation.”

The driver was questioned at the scene but was not arrested.

She was taken to the hospital, but police did not release her condition.

West Vancouver police have taken over the investigation.
