Two dead, ‘multiple shooting scenes’ in Langley, Canada

Two victims have died and two others have been seriously injured in a shooting in western Canada, apparently aimed at homeless people.

The gunman was also shot dead by police, bringing the total number of victims to three.

Footage from the scene showed at least one police vehicle riddled with bullets after a shooting.

At 6:15 a.m. local time, emergency alerts were sent to residents in the town of Langley, British Columbia, located 47 km southeast of Vancouver, warning of “multiple shooting scenes.”

One man was found dead by a bus stop and another near a public housing complex. Police also took a woman to hospital who was discovered near a city road.

Another man was found injured outside the city’s Willowbrook Mall. Police shot the shooter at a nearby location.

A police car with at least nine bullet holes was seen downtown. Another white vehicle was also seen riddled with bullet holes.

“At this time we do not know the motive for this fatal incident, or if there was any relationship between the deceased suspect and the victims,” said Chief Supt. Ghalib Bhayani of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

“During their interaction with the suspect, police fired their weapon and struck the man,” the RCMP said in a statement. “He was pronounced dead at the scene.”

No motive has yet been given for the attack.

The alert sent to residents described the suspect as white with dark hair wearing a brown Carhartt brand jumpsuit and a blue and green camouflage T-shirt with a red logo on the sleeve.

Police advised people to steer clear of the Langley CBD.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) reported that police said homeless people were specifically targeted in the attack.

Canada has stricter gun laws and far fewer are fired in the United States.

Despite this, Canada has been rocked by recent shooting incidents. On Sunday, two men were shot and killed outside a hotel in the British Columbia ski resort of Whistler, north of Vancouver.

The attack happened in broad daylight and investigators said it was linked to gang violence in the province.
