iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

YEEEEEE. It’s finally time for the iPhone 14. Let me see those cameras….

First we’ll look at the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, which have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Super Retina displays respectively. There are five colors; purple, blue, white, red and black!

This is the camera on the iPhone 14, which DOES have the autofocus selfie camera (opens in a new tab) that we wrote about earlier. This is called a true depth camera and should be able to focus faster in low light.

But it looks like the main camera is still 12MP (really?). The main camera has an f/1.5 aperture and sensor-shift image stabilization. Apple has mentioned an ultra-large camera, although that doesn’t seem to have changed from previous iterations, I believe.

Deep blending will occur earlier on uncompressed images to improve low light. Photonic Engine is the name of this new process and it benefits all cameras – twice as much as existing cameras.

For video users, Apple has announced a new advanced stabilization mode, called Action Mode, which it says will dispense with the new one for a gimbal. (opens in a new tab)

Apple AirPods Pro 2

AirPods Pro 2 next… Can we please have the iPhones yet? Apple kindly created this spec sheet image so I don’t have to write all the specs.

AirPods Pro 2: $249, order September 9, available September 23.

Apple Watch Ultra

The Apple Watch Ultra is officially here (rumors called it the Apple Watch Pro). Rugged, sporty, twice as waterproof as any previous Apple Watch. It has an action button, plus three new bands: Alpine, Ocean, and one I missed (but was probably called something like Earthy). I googled it, it’s called Trail.

To be honest, the part I’m most excited about here is a battery that can last more than half a day (or half a run). The Apple Watch Ultra is said to have a battery life of 36 hours on a single charge. This is extended to 60 hours with a battery optimization coming later this year.

Right now it’s all about ovulation and cycle tracking with the Apple Series 8, camera lovers. Interesting enough for healthcare, sure, but give us the iPhone 14 already!

The Apple Watch Series 8 will be available in 4 colors, and there will also be some new Nikon Sport Loops for sports lovers – innovative, right?!

So this is the Apple Watch Series 8, with temperature detection, advanced ovulation tracking, accident detection and international roaming.

Apple Watch Series 8 will be available starting at $399 and $499 (mobile). You can order today and it will ship on September 16th.

Apple Watch SE 2

The new Apple Watch SE 2 will be available in 3 colors, and a new production process is said to “reduce its carbon footprint by 80%.” It offers the core benefits of the Apple Watch ecosystem, at a lower price. To be honest, it looks the same as the last one. I can’t think why the internet is complaining that Apple isn’t innovative…

Apple Watch SE 2 prices at $249 and $299, you can order today, available September 16.

And so begins the ‘Far Out’ Apple Event 2022…

Wherever you are watching the live stream (hopefully with us on this live blog) the video feed is now LIVE! And we have turbulent stars and funky music to introduce us.

Apple CEO Tim Cook is here! Hi Tim Cook! to talk about three products that have become essential in our lives. “always with you, when and where you need them!”

Apple iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods.

He talks about the integration of the three products: “something only Apple can do.”

Well, this is heartwarming – we’re seeing stories from Apple Watch users around the world to see how the product has changed their lives (and even saved them)! There are all ages, nationalities, university students…

We’re also likely to see new Apple Watch and AirPods models

Since this is Digital Camera World, at this Apple event we’re more interested in the new iPhone 14, namely its cameras, their specs and features, and what they can do for smartphone photography. clever

But I should also mention that we’ll probably see Apple release the Apple Watch 8 and AirPods Pro 2.

26 minutes to go, folks! And no, it’s not a significant number, I had just gone for a coffee and missed the 30 minute countdown!

What do you want to see from the next generation of iPhone cameras? I would love to see a megapixel increase in the main camera sensor, a lighter design and a lower price, but the latter is definitely not going to happen!

Let’s talk about Apple’s “Far Out” theme

Apple holds regular events throughout the year, and before each event, they issue an invitation for people to watch them live at home. Events always have nicknames: last year in September we called ourselves California Streaming and learned more about Apple’s streaming services. Makes sense, right?

Is it me, or does it look like Apple is trying to give us some critical hints about today’s launch event? Far Out is the name, and it seems very spacious to me. Could we see some telescoping lenses on the iPhone 14 cameras? Will iPhone 14 cameras be capable of astrophotography?

Apple CEO Tim Cook has continued the star theme, making a post on Twitter. “Looking forward to a stellar Apple event”. Stellar means, or relating to the (astral) stars, so perhaps we could see iPhone cameras that are capable of capturing images of the night sky.

Good morning! We look forward to a stellar event from Apple. pic.twitter.com/8rwWBwX79VS September 7, 2022

Just when you thought we were all taking smartphone launches too seriously, Buzzfeed goes and lightens the mood (opens in a new tab). 😂

The Apple Store is being updated as we speak, ready to make way for some shiny, high-priced (hopefully high-spec) new camera phones for us. Watch it go.

iPhone 14 price predictions

We previously reported that the iPhone 14 lineup is tipped to get a price hike (opens in a new tab) (not surprising given inflation rates!) and yet Apple may decide to freeze the launch price (opens in a new tab) of the base iPhone 14. to stay competitive. We can wait, huh?

Will Apple take an economic hit or will the increased costs be passed on to the consumer? Only time will tell. If you don’t want to wait and see (or just can’t afford it right now), check out some of the best iPhone 13 deals (opens in a new tab).

Here are the key iPhone 14 camera rumors so far:

iPhone 14 design predictions

We already had some ideas of what the iPhone 14 lineup might look like from rumors, like this updated design (opens in a new tab) for the Pro models, which showed the iPhone models with two notches on the front of their screens (a pill and hole cut).

More recently, we came across another unexpected leak (opens in a new tab) which claimed that the cutouts for the pill and the hole would not be visually separated when the screen is turned on, but would instead appear as a contiguous pill shape and longer Confused?

The rumor has been commented on by the highly respected Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, via Twitter, who said: “Having this separation would feel strange in use.”

This is true. It looks like a wide pill-shaped cutout. Having this separation would feel strange during use. 31, 2022

If the leak is true, it means that Apple will make the two screen cutouts appear as one through the software, by darkening the area between the two cutouts.

According to a 9to5Mac source, Apple wants the space between the two cutouts to display privacy indicators for the microphone and camera. It could also allow for a redesign of the camera app itself!

Key Apple reporters 9to5Mac (opens in new tab) created this rendering of possible notch changes to the device’s design (image credit: 9to5Mac)

So, will Apple redesign the camera app for the iPhone 14?

Currently, in the Apple Camera app, all controls are at the bottom of the screen (see below). A screen redesign could see Apple move to the top of the screen (the rare setting could sit below the screen cutouts), giving photographers a larger view of the camera preview . Wouldn’t that be nice?

Will the Apple 14 lineup offer enough innovation?

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: innovation. Or, in Apple’s case, a perceived lack. I have loved Apple products for years, since I managed to save enough pocket money to buy the iPod classic. But even I, an Apple fan, recently found myself a little bored with it all and tempted by the Google Pixel 6 (opens in a new tab).

Many users are taking to social channels to make jokes and memes at Apple’s expense, and last week Samsung was even seen poking fun at Apple in a promotional video called Buckle Up (opens in a new tab) before the launch of the iPhone 14. The ad is digging into the iPhone’s low…
