What we know so far: The Google Pixel 7 Pro

Google released this video of the Google Pixel 7 Pro showing its full design.

Google has confirmed (opens in new tab) that the Pixel 7 Pro will launch with the new Tensor G2 chip, bringing GPU, NPU and modem improvements to this year’s model. However, now thanks to a major specs leak from the prolific Yogesh Brar (opens in a new tab), it looks like this could be the only major update for the Pro model.

According to the leak, the Pixel 7 Pro’s display will be the same as the Pixel 6 Pro’s, and the battery is also said to be the same with a 5,000mAh capacity and support for 30W fast charging.

Moving on to the camera setup, the Pixel 7 Pro will reportedly have a 50MP main, 12MP ultra-wide and 48MP telephoto setup, as seen on its predecessor. The updates will apparently come as the camera uses a new sensor: the Samsung GM1, instead of the Sony IMX586. The selfie camera will also get a small update with the addition of autofocus, although the resolution will remain at 11MP.

Even more samples of the new Google Pixel collection

Usually, a launch event is an opportunity for manufacturers to surprise us with new models, but it seems that Google can’t resist showing off its new collection of Google Pixels before the official live stream tomorrow!

“Designed to work together. Built to work for you. With premium metal finishes and colors that complement each other, Google’s Pixel Collection brings together Pixel phones, watches and headphones to help personalized throughout the day.”

This is very similar to Apple’s September event, where we saw the company launch its iPhone 14 lineup (opens in a new tab), along with a new Apple Watch and AirPods 2.

Google Pixel 7: What do analysts think?

Several analysts have speculated ahead of tomorrow’s Made by Google event; Here are the comments from Ben Wood, Chief Analyst and CMO of CCS Insight:

“It’s baffling that Google wants to be in the smartphone business, and it’s hard to see how it’s a profitable venture for the company. We’re guessing Google sees the Pixel products as a demonstration of ‘the art of possible” when it comes to Android smartphones. It’s also a way to keep other Android licensees on the lookout for compatibility with new features.”

“The new Pixel devices offer further evidence that smartphone innovation has stalled. All the major phone makers are focusing on making already good products even better, but there’s little disruption… “.

“Pixel phones appeal to tech enthusiasts who want the latest version of Android and like to have something different from the mainstream choice from Apple or Samsung.”

“Given the similarities to last year’s devices, it seems likely that the standout features will continue to be the impressive Pixel camera system and access to the latest version of Android.”

“Google is unlikely to take any of Apple’s share with the new Pixel devices: iPhone owners remain incredibly loyal to the brand. The biggest concern should be for rival Android smartphone makers, including Samsung , which dominates the segment, or smaller Chinese manufacturers. Google has incredible resources and could put huge amounts of money behind Pixel, but it has to walk a fine line. Undermining established Android phone makers makes little sense when Apple assumes such a huge threat to the entire ecosystem.”
