13.35 – THOMAS ‘FIGHT WITH A TRADE’

Just a day after Jason Horne-Francis’ surprise trade request from North Melbourne, young gun Tarryn Thomas now faces an uncertain future.

SEN’s Sam Edmund reports that Thomas is a “live” watch to demand a trade from the Roos during the trade window, despite the former Pick 8 being contracted for next season.

“There’s a lot of smoke around Tarryn Thomas,” Edmund said NO Breakfast.

“He has been fighting to ask for a change in North Melbourne himself.

“It hasn’t happened at the moment, but that’s a live watch in North Melbourne given everything that’s going on then.”

The 22-year-old has played 57 games for the Roos since making his debut in 2019, including just 10 appearances this season which included him being released to the VFL at the end of the campaign.

Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph revealed on Twitter that the Gold Coast Suns have “repeatedly enquired” about Thomas, but as of Sunday night, he was still seen staying at Arden Street.

“The Roos should probably keep him on his deal and hope the environment improves next year,” Ralph tweeted.

12.15: LAST OF RIOLI-PORT

Port Adelaide football boss Chris Davies is confident a deal can be struck with West Coast for Junior Rioli.

It emerged last week that the Eagles are unlikely to accept the second-round pick (currently Pick 27) the Power received as compensation for losing free agent Karl Amon to Hawthorn in a straight trade for Rioli, who last month he informed West Coast that he wanted a change. in Port Adelaide.

Despite reports that Rioli’s trade could extend into the trade period, Davies said he expected Rioli to eventually join the Power.

“We had a bit more time with Junior with him suggesting he wanted to come to Port Adelaide a couple of weeks ago now,” Davies told reporters. “I know Jase Cripps and Rohan (O’Brien) have been working behind the scenes to get a deal done.

“Obviously they’ve put a price on it that right now we’re probably not close to agreeing, but that doesn’t mean there’s any animosity in the discussions so far.

“Amon’s compensation is one of the selections that we have to use for all the offers that we can have during this period. It’s very difficult to commit to something immediately when you have several things on the table.”

11:30 a.m. — DEES CLOSES PICKETT-POWER WILPERS

Melbourne list boss Tim Lamb has strongly refuted suggestions premiership forward Kysaiah Pickett will not be at the club next year.

Despite reports suggesting Power could make a play for Pickett, Lamb told reporters, “Any talk of Kozzie leaving is absolutely ridiculous. We love Kozzie, Kozzie loves us, there’s been no discussion about it (trade).

11.15 a.m. — ROOS SETS THE HIGH PRICE FOR HORNE-FRANCIS

North Melbourne list manager Brady Rawlings says Port Adelaide will need to shed more than two first-round picks to satisfy the Kangaroos in a trade for Jason Horne-Francis.

The South Australian shocked the football world on Sunday night when he asked North Melbourne for a trade to the Power, less than 12 months after the Kangaroos selected him with Pick 1 in the national draft.

Rawlings said the club had rejected some “huge offers in the past” for Pick 1, so any Horne-Francis trade offer “would have to be pretty good” for the Roos to consider.

“If there is an agreement that we feel is advantageous for our football club, we will consider it,” he said.

Asked if it would take more than Port’s first pick (Pick 8) and a future first-round pick as compensation for losing Horne-Francis, Rawlings said: “I would have thought so. We’ve come back better than that in the past . So I don’t see why we would take that as an option right now.”

The Roos said on Sunday night that Horne-Francis would “look for a move to a club in South Australia”, but Power football boss Chris Davies confirmed the 19-year-old “wants to come to Port Adelaide, 100 per cent.”

“We have an existing relationship with his family through his father Fabian. We met with Jason last week and are very pleased that he has expressed his desire to come to Port Adelaide next year,” Davies told the journalists

“I’m pretty confident that Jason (Cripps) and Brady will do the right thing and work on a deal during the trade period … I think both clubs would want to do something if there’s a fair and reasonable deal.

“I think Brady’s a fair and reasonable guy. If there’s a deal to die for, historically both clubs have made deals when there’s one.”

Davies insisted recent inmates Josh Sinn and Miles Bergman would not be part of a Horne-Francis deal, saying both were under contract and neither had made a trade request.

Rawlings said it was “disappointing when the application” came through from Horne-Francis.

“We invested a lot in this player, last year’s No. 1 pick, we got a lot of money back to bring him with the No. 1 selection. We were hoping he would want to make his career at North Melbourne, but that’s not going to be the case,” he said. to say.

Asked how Horne-Francis would fare at the Roos next year if a proper deal couldn’t be reached, Rawlings said: “I think it would be fine. He’s got a great relationship with our footy club. He’s close with a lot of the guys he was drafted with. I wouldn’t see that being a problem, but that’s more of a question for Jason.”

10.45am — GEELONG WANTS BIG CAT UPDATE, FIREMEN

Cats list boss Andrew Mackie remains adamant Esava Ratugolea will remain a Geelong player.

Ratugolea has met with Port Adelaide but Mackie said the Cats “love” the big man signing and “he’ll be at the Cats next year”.

“He’s had some conversations, the way it is in the AFL world, but he’s contracted and we love him. Esava will stay at the Cats,” Mackie told reporters.

Mackie also said it would be difficult to find common value with Collingwood for Ollie Henry.

Meanwhile, Essendon list boss Adrian Dodoro admits the Bombers’ painstaking coaching search, which ended late last week with the appointment of Brad Scott, has the club “behind the eight ball ” for the commercial period.

Dodoro said the club was still hopeful of landing Gold Coast’s Jack Bowes, who has attracted interest from a handful of rival clubs.

10.25 AM — DOUBLE DOCKERS DOWN IN HARD POSITION LOBB

Fremantle list boss David Walls says the club’s tough stance on signed key forward Rory Lobb has not changed.

Last month, the Dockers confirmed Lobb had asked to trade him to the Western Bulldogs, but also told Lobb it would be difficult to do a deal.

“They (the dogs) have come to us. We’ve had a conversation, but we have no intention of trading Rory,” Walls told reporters.

“The club statement we made, we stand by it, nothing has changed… It is very difficult to find 206cm forwards who score two goals a game and can go through the ruck.

“Hopefully Rory will be with us next year, he’s a professional, he’ll be able to come back and we’ll support him.”

10.05am — WALK ‘FAIR WAY DOWN THE TRACK’ AT GRUNDY TALKS

Collingwood football boss Graham Wright says Brodie Grundy is likely to land at the Demons at some point in the next fortnight.

Despite having five years to run on a mega seven-year deal at the Pies, Grundy and the Pies have held an “open and honest” dialogue about the ruck star’s future, with the club willing to clear cap space salary

“We’ve had discussions with Brodie about possibly moving to Melbourne and I think we’re on the right track with that,” Wright told reporters.

“It’s probably likely. We’ve had conversations with him for 12 months, they’ve been open and honest.”

In a separate interview, Wright said the Pies would “really like to retain” Ollie Henry despite his desire to join Geelong, while Dan McStay and Bobby Hill should officially join the Pies on Monday at afternoon

Hawk Tom Mitchell hired, Wright said AFL commercial radio: “I think it’s a chance, but it’s probably unlikely… We have some interest, but it would be less of a priority than other things we have.”

9.40 AM — DOW TELLS BLUES HE WANTS OUT

Carlton midfielder Paddy Dow has told the club he would like to continue his AFL career at another club.

Blues list manager Nick Austin confirmed to reporters that Dow was willing to explore options in this trade period.

Austin said Dow wants to play senior football more regularly.

Dow, 23, is contracted until the end of 2023 so would have to be traded if he wanted to move clubs. There were reports in July that Geelong and Richmond were circling the Dow.

The former Pick 3 was limited to just two senior games for the Blues this season despite strong form in the VFL in Michael Voss’ first year in charge.

6.45AM – CATS STILL WAITING FOR BOWES STREET

Geelong has yet to hear Jack Bowes’ decision despite reports the Suns defender had opted to move to the Cats, reports the Herald Sun’s John Ralph.

The Cats are still among the favorites for Bowes’ services, with the Suns offering the 24-year-old along with Pick 7 in a rare package to…
