Ben Fisher’s report is up, so I’ll wrap up this blog. And don’t forget you can join Barry Glendenning for coverage of the games at 3 p.m. Ta-ra!
Jurgen Klopp speaks
I can explain the performance, but not the result. I’ve never seen a game where a team has… I’m not sure, four or five no-brainers in a game. We have to finish them. We should have put the game to bed. The goal we conceded was a big mistake on our part [by Joe Gomez]. All the opportunities they had we gave them, because too often we played the wrong pass.
We had to play three games in six days with a very limited squad. That’s how it is. In terms of the result, we should have shown consistency with a better finish today.
Our next game is on Wednesday, so it’s like a holiday. I hope a few players come back. Forest showed fight. It’s the Premier League, they’re all good and they’re all fighting. But giving one team six clear chances from set pieces, I’m not sure I should praise Forest to be honest. They are a great team, Steve is a great manager, but we have to win today. done And we didn’t, so credit to Nottingham Forest.
Man of the match Ryan Yates speaks
It’s what we needed. We’ve been putting in some good performances over the last few weeks and we really deserved it today. The coach said before the game that we had to get the crowd from the first minute, and we did. [On Dean Henderson’s save] incredible That’s why it’s there! [Is this a turning point?] Must be. Must be. If we can beat Liverpool, we can beat anyone.
Match winner Taiwo Awoniyi speaks
I think I played a good game with my team. We had a plan, to be compact and try to get a goal, and I’m very happy that we won. Liverpool brought me into football, they signed me when I was 18, so it’s an emotional game for me. We have to thank the fans.
In addition to the victory, it is a second consecutive clean sheet for Forest. This is really significant because they were bleeding targets a month ago.
Steve Cooper is warmly congratulated by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who he coached at Liverpool’s Academy. The atmosphere at the City Ground is wonderful. Whatever happens this season, they will remember this game forever.
Full time: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Liverpool
A famous win for Nottingham Forest! If that doesn’t get his season started, nothing will. They played with brains and heart against a below-par Liverpool side, whose miserable form continues. Forest also needed a huge late save from Dean Henderson, who jumped straight up to celebrate with the home fans!

90+6 min: Johnson hits the post! Forest break from a Liverpool corner, with Alisson still on the pitch, and Johnson hits the post from 30 yards!
90+5 min After a tennis match in the wood area, Henderson decants Salah’s header over the bar. It was a comfortable stop.

90+2 min: Wonderful save from Henderson! Robertson’s corner is met by Van Dijk, unmarked eight yards out. He lands a textbook downward header to the left of Henderson, who somehow manages to make a fantastic save! The ball bounces in front of the goal, and Yates protects it until Alisson fouls him.

90+1 min Five minutes of added time.
90 min: Just from Van Dijk! Alexander-Arnold curls a lovely ball past the far post, where Van Dijk stretches to palm a volley back across goal with his left foot. He just dodges Salah and runs back for a shot on goal.

90 min Freuler is booked, presumably for dissent.
89 min Lodi fouls Elliott 25 meters from goal, right of center. This is an opportunity for Liverpool…
88 min Worrall is booked for wasting time.
86 min: Great save by Alisson! Yates wins the ball in midfield and plays it to Gibbs-White on the left. He waits for the right moment to cut a beautiful pass back into the path of Yates, who pings into the far corner. Alisson stretches out and deflects it over the bar with his left bicep. He is an exceptional goalkeeper.

85 min: Good save from Henderson! Jones plays Robertson in, who takes care of an excellent cross towards the far post. Alexander-Arnold gets to Lodi’s blindside eight yards out and drives a header that Henderson clears to his left.
84 min Van Dijk looks good.
83 min Another injury concern for Liverpool, with Van Dijk needing treatment. It’s a problem with the right foot.
80 min Forest bring on Orel Mangala for the utterly shattered Cheikhou Kouyate. It’s been great.
In the 78th minute, Van Dijk takes Robertson’s corner and Cook clears it.
77 min Kouyate breaks into the box from the left and picks out Yates on the edge of the box. His shot is slightly tame and deflects towards Alisson. This was a chance for Forest.
77 min: Substitution for Liverpool Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain replaces…Roberto Firmino. It’s a bit of a surprise, even if Firmino wasn’t great today.

73 min Forest are 17 minutes away from a famous win, one that would lift them off the bottom of the table.
72 min Another change for Forest. Renan Lodi replaces Neco Williams at left back.
72 min “Sunday feels like a long time ago, all of a sudden,” says Matt Dony.
71 min Alexander-Arnold’s cross is deflected to Jones on the edge of the box. He chests it and volleys straight at Henderson.

70 min Kouyate has been cramping with this run. Forest’s midfield three – Koyate, Yates and Freueler – were really excellent today.
69 min: Good stop by Alisson! Another excellent counter attack from Forest. Kouyate charges the length of the field, playing a long-range one-two with Gibbs-White in the process, and crosses low to Johnson at the near post. He fails to connect properly with a first-time hit on the run and Alisson pushes it onto the post.
66 min The pressure is on. Alexander-Arnold’s cross is deflected behind by Cook, who jogs over to take the corner. Cook heads it superbly, under all sorts of pressure from Van Dijk at the far post.
65 min Forest lose the ball in a dangerous area, but Firmino’s cut-back evades Salah and Jones down the middle.

64 min Double substitution of Forest. Joe Worrall and Brennan Johnson replace goalscorer Taiwo Awoniyi, who has crashed, and Jesse Lingard. This means a change to a back five.
63 min: Chance for Liverpool! Alexander-Arnold’s wicked corner is headed to the ground and Firmino over the bar, six yards out. He saw it very late and had to duck to make contact, so it wasn’t an easy opportunity.
62 min Liverpool make a double substitution: Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold come on for James Milner, who was actually excellent, and Fabio Carvalho.
58 min: Great defense by Milner! Forest almost makes it two. Awoniyi leads a four-on-three break from a Liverpool corner and flicks the ball to Gibbs-White in the box. He takes a touch and launches a shot that is brilliantly blocked by the sliding Milner.
57 min: Good save by Henderson! Milner slides a pass into the box to the towering Elliott, whose right-footed shot is pushed at the near post by Henderson.

57 min Robertson and Fabinho have a bit of a disagreement after the goal. It’s very difficult to reconcile lethargic and sloppy performances like this with the relentless brilliance we’ve seen from Liverpool over the last five years.
The free kick for that Gomez foul was launched across the field to Cook on the right. He scored a cross into a crowded area that Awoniyi sent against the post. The ball came straight back to him, and he fired it gleefully into the roof of the net from six yards.

GOAL! Nottingham Forest – Liverpool 1-0 (Awoniyi 55)
Taiwo Awoniyi has scored against his former club!
54 min. Gomez is booked for pulling back Awoniyi, who has won the ball on the halfway line and advanced towards goal. Steve Cooper believes it should have been a red card, but it was too far to be considered a clear scoring chance.
53 min Liverpool have a hopeful penalty appeal turned down as Elliott meets Cook.
52 min. Milner’s free-kick finds Salah completely unmarked, 12 yards out, but he makes a complete mess of an attempted volley. He had time to get this down. The ball comes to Carvalho, who sprays over the crossbar.
