Samsung strengthens camera support for Galaxy S22 and Z Fold 4

Samsung has announced that the Z Fold 4 will receive support for the Expert RAW app, which allows users to manually change camera settings and shoot in RAW.

The Expert RAW app is an incredibly powerful tool for Android photographers that gives users control they can usually only get from a manual camera, such as setting the ISO or adjusting the shutter speed in addition to being able to shoot in RAW. The app made by Samsung is also free.

The latest app update adds Z Fold 4 support and also includes the ability to save custom presets. The company also claims that it has made improvements for images taken in low light. The ability to edit RAW photos also greatly expands your phone photography options, both for those already channeling the experience of full-size cameras and for novice photographers looking to learn the ropes with the gear they already own.

Expert RAW was introduced earlier this year for some of Samsung’s top-of-the-line phones, including the latest Galaxy lines from the S21 and up.

The Z Fold 4 already packs a decent camera arsenal with three rear lenses, including a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. For reference, this is the same configuration as the Galaxy S22. That’s not to mention the massive display that makes searching for views and post-processing so much easier.

The Galaxy S22 is also receiving updates

Lest Samsung’s true flagship device be forgotten, the Galaxy S22 will receive camera upgrades of its own. This includes added support for telephoto camera in rear hyperlapse mode, improved performance for reading QR codes, optimization for memory and AI engine, optimized image quality for photos and videos, Sharpness and contrast intensity adjustments, and dark night glow and color. mode, according to a post by a moderator working on the camera on Samsung’s Korean forum.

The post teases additional features coming soon, such as an astronomical hyperlapse feature being developed and improvements to ultra-low light mode, though no timeline was given for these potential future updates.

There are no similar posts on the US-based Samsung forums. However, the same user noted that support for Z Fold and preset saving would be coming to Expert RAW in July, adding credibility to the source.

Added support for Expert RAW continues to be a welcome update for phone photographers, as are continued improvements to the base camera app for the S22.
